We are the group of the farmers of the Elaia squat, or the Greenhouse group, or rather the Elaia Agro collective. We started our action a few months after the Elaia squat was started, in November 2009, in Corfu. When we started our work on this land, we were confronted with a dilapidated greenhouse and a neglected land full of olive trees that reminded us more of a jungle than anything else. Although we initially thought that the rural could be the central theme of the occupation, for practical reasons and in accordance with the needs and wishes of each individual, we concluded that it was appropriate to create a separate initiative within the occupation, always in direct interdependence with it. Thus the Agro collective is composed mainly of people from the squat, but not only, and has its own separate assembly that deals with the management of the land and the greenhouse, but also with issues of broader political interest, always within its scope.
