Arrasateko gaztetxea
Short url:
After repeatedly declaring the need for a space managed by the town hall, on April 4th 1987, we occupied the Gurea Gaztetxe. That year, we created the Sorgiña free radio, among other things. Although the internal functioning of this Gaztetxe was good, we had problems with the council at the time, and the Gaztetxe and then the assembly disappeared.
Creation of a second Gaztetxe - We started meeting several young people at the old hospital in the town, and for eleven years we kept the Gaztexte of Mondragón through self-management. During these years, we held a competition to name the Gaztetxe, which became the name of the youth assembly: AGAKO, the Organized Guild of Alternative Youth of Mondragón.
We started meeting with Mondragón City Council because we saw the need for several improvements: toilets and electricity for example. During these meetings, council representatives explained their intention to move the Gaztetxe to another building.
Nowadays - After these eleven long and beautiful years, we reached an agreement with the council, and since June 7th 2003, we have continued in the building next to the Uarkape fronton.
The Gaztetxe has many areas: main hall, bar, cinema, radio, workshop, sound room, library, screen printing workshop, kitchen, computer room and bedrooms. Our main goal is to make the most of the resources offered by the Gaztetxe and to make everyone who comes to it feel at home and free. Self-management is our main principle. To do this, an assembly based on respect, trust and equality is essential.
