La Parole Errante is a self-organized place in Montreuil, Seine-Saint-Denis. La Parole Errante Demain is the collective of users who defend, animate and take care of the place.
Convinced of the need to bring to life spaces for experimentation, at a distance from commercial logics and the boundaries established between culture, politics and society, La Parole Errante Demain seeks to build a breathable place in an increasingly suffocating metropolis. To design another city, another geography than the one imposed by urban policies and the Grand Paris project, a refuge, a space where people can meet, exchange, organize, create commonality.
It is a whole multiplicity of experiences and uses that inhabit or run through La Parole Errante: rehearsals and theatre shows with a precarious economy, screenings of self-produced films, book presentations, radio shows, inclusive sports classes, philosophy seminars, support evenings, assemblies, meetings and social services organised by different collectives of struggle and solidarity.
La Parole Errante is a large room of 800 square meters that can accommodate major events, a café-bookstore overlooking the street, the Maison Armand Gatti which houses archives, publishers, magazines, a sound studio and other spaces occupied by different collectives.
La Parole Errante was born in 1997, when the General Council of Seine-Saint-Denis granted Armand Gatti and his team the autonomous management of this space, which the playwright opened up to many social and political realities. After the end of the lease in 2015, then the death of Gatti in 2017, the users of the place welcomed over the years came together in a collective – La Parole Errante Demain – to create from the existing, possible, desirable sequels for the place.
