Okupa Jiboia
Short url:
We are Kasa Okupa Cultural Jiboia since January 2022. More than 20 years of abandonment, 38 thousand people living on the streets and vulnerability. More than 48 thousand empty properties, real estate speculation, gentrification. An increasingly white, urbanly predatory city, scarcity and competition.
In this scenario, we resisted for the right to housing and the non-privatization of the Joaquim José Felizardo museum, making the cultural movement in the midst of the ruins, transforming humus resulting from abandonment into beds: corn, pumpkin, tomato, basil, coriander, avocado, banana trees, sunflowers... We want to recover the memory of the territory, the nourishment of the land, from the collective commitment to the destruction of colonial ideas based on mutual support, with the purpose and intention of treading the horizon of self-management.
WE ARE DISSIDENTS, LGBTQIA+, NON-HUMAN WOMEN AND ANIMALS! We are a counterpoint to this society that violently affirms standards of beauty, body, health and behavior in sexual, gender and race norms and structures, which together form a social pact that annuls existences, makes lives invisible and plans to sweep us under the rug in the country that kills the most trans people and consumes the most trans pornography. We understand that to create a safe space for us, we carried out the Kasa Okupa Cultural Jiboia with the purpose of freeing ourselves from the racist and sexist monopoly of white-cis-hetero power.
We organized ourselves and even with few resources we are building this space of emotional and material security among women, the LGBTQIA+ community, black and indigenous people as a way, not only to reduce the harm of violence and protect our existence on a day-to-day basis, but mainly, to expand our potentiality by focusing on our multiple and singular existence, welcoming our subjectivities, perspectives and experiences in search of strengthening individual autonomy, collectively.
