No railway, no Cigeo!

In July 2022, the decree was published that made the mega nuclear waste bin project called Cigeo public and we responded to it with the first edition of the barricade festival.

Today, it is against the backdrop of the Application for Authorization to Create and the expropriation procedure that we are preparing the second one, which will take place from September 5 to 11, 2024 at the former Luméville train station in Ornois (Meuse).

In Bure and the surrounding villages, the National Agency for the Management of Radioactive Waste (ANDRA) is eyeing the missing land to quickly begin the construction of the "descending zone" of Cigeo, the "inter-site link", and to set up its Terminal Branched Facility, in other words the railway line that connects Gondrecourt to the laboratory. The current expropriations concern several hundred agricultural plots, including part of the Champ des Semeuses and La Gare (industrial wasteland and a militant site against the project), both located on the route of the railway line. The stakes are high; defending the station is simply tantamount to blocking the construction site and preventing the creation of Cigeo.

Don't worry: the station still belongs to us! But, according to ANDRA's timetable, it estimates that it will be able to own it in 2025. We won't go into more detail here, if you want to know more, come to the barricade party, we have planned to talk about it all together.

Moreover, if expropriation does not mean eviction, we want to continue to anticipate this moment with all the people who are sensitive to this struggle and attached to this place.

Through this struggle, we inscribe a perspective of global resistance against the military and civilian nuclearization of a police state, but also against the environmental devastation that the energy transition is causing here and elsewhere, as well as the social control over the populations of the world who suffer it.

Andra expropriated, we settle!

In response to this turbulent news, new construction and land development methods are being invited to this event, we want to strengthen La Gare to make it more habitable to better defend it.

On the menu: strengthening and continuing to erect existing barricades (obviously), but also building shacks and collective structures to increase the capacity and facilitate installation.

Workshops on the strategy of defending the station and threatened places (present and past) will be offered, as well as walks, swimming, screenings and of course, the icing on the cake, there will be the PARTY.

We also invite you to come and imagine and create different means of resistance and blockage on earth... underground and in the air!

We are in the process of putting together the program for the event, which will have as its main activities and themes: installation, strategies for defending a place threatened by the nuclear industry, the diversity of tactics, taking care of oneself and the un.es of others in increased contexts of stress, confrontation and repression.

The context of this second edition is different from the first, its program is more varied in terms of formats and themes addressed: yes, there will be a lot of work, but not only! Your contribution is welcome.

Do not hesitate to propose your ideas, to diversify the themes addressed and to propose other workshops/discussions/projects, so that everyone can find their place in this event.
