Short url:
THE RAGING MOON 1971Directed by Bryan Forbes112 minutesIn English with English subtitles
I really believe that someday historians (if historians even exist in the future) will look back at our present decade and when they witness the trash that was produced, they'll think we were utterly insane. When we go back to the 70s it's a different story, there was such a rich explosion of different kinds of cinema... in fact, there was so many legendary films that a lot of the small gems are totally forgotten and are still waiting to be discovered. Cases in point, the above film The Little Girl Down the Lane, and this one, The Raging Moon.
This 70s British flick stars Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange), who gives one of the strongest performances of his career as a guy who has it all, he's cocky, charming and popular. But when he comes home from a party one night, something mysterious suddenly happens that changes the course of his life forever. This is a sensitive, revealing, thoughtful journey that captures a spark rarely caught on the silver screen. It's a movie about change and transformation. I can't really say more without going into the plot.
Is the movie dated? Hell, yes... and thank God for it! No terrible music scores, arrogant actors, hyperactive editing nor special effects. The director Bryan Forbes is somewhat of a rarity, a man who worked for ages and was never really recognized, but still managed to make many damn great films (Whistle down the Wind, The L-shaped Room, the original Stepford Wives). He was always good with getting outstanding performances from actors, and he had an penchant for the more unusual aspects of love.
This will be a high-definition screening.
