Kissable Screens, the monthly sex-positive programme of Cavia, encountered this beautiful film at the Pornfilmfestival in Berlin this year. Memories of a Burning Body is a wake-up call to those in unfulfilling relationships who think that sexual pleasure is gone after the menopause.

The film follows the voices of three women – 68-year-old Ana, 69-year-old Patricia and 71-year-old Mayela who grew up during a repressive era on the Central American island of Costa Rica – and portrays their memories, experiences and relationships as well as their approach to sexuality and femininity. They do not step in front of the camera, so the images in this film are implicit and poetic. Through the memory and intimacy of three women, this film tells you that sexual pleasure and desire can go on and even begin later in life.
