Ve dnech 4. až 6. října pořádáme druhý ročník festivalu Vzpurná Praha. Přednášky, diskuse, workshopy a promítání na téma dostupnost bydlení a právo na město.

V Praze rostou nájmy dvakrát rychleji než mzdy, ceny nemovitostí se šplhají do astronomických částek a město po třiceti letech privatizací není schopné nabídnout k nedostupnému tržnímu bydlení alternativu. V médiích přitom od developerů a ekonomů z velkých bank posloucháme, že za krizi bydlení může jen pomalá výstavba a lidé, kteří by rádi mluvili do toho, co jim vyroste za okny. Zdaleka méně se mluví o tom, že nové byty jsou určeny především bohatým investorům a nová výstavba často naopak zvyšuje ceny bydlení v okolí a ze čtvrti vyhání nízkopříjmové obyvatele.

Nové vedení města sice tvrdilo, že jeho vzorem je Vídeň, kde je dostupnost bydlení zajištěna silnými regulacemi, ale navrhovaná podoba nového metropolitního plánu hraje naopak podle not volného trhu. Jak přitom taková písnička zní, zažívají ti z nás, jimž raketově rostou nájmy, či ti, jejichž domy zaplavilo AirBnB a místo fungujícího sousedství kolem sebe mají bujarý hostel.

Chceme město, které se nebude podřizovat zisku těch nejbohatších, ale budeme ho moci spoluutvářet podle našich potřeb. Zkušenosti z Prahy i zahraničí ukazují, že o to musíme usilovat sami, protože nikdo jiný to za nás neudělá. V rámci Vzpurné Prahy chceme hledat společné příčiny nedostupného bydlení, bezohledného developmentu i turismu utrženého ze řetězu, ale také společné odpovědi na ně. Kromě přednášek, procházek, filmů a zkušeností ze zahraničí chceme dát prostor hlavně vzájemnému seznamování, výměně zkušeností a budování koalic za demokratické a dostupné město.

Rebel Prague: For affordable housing for all

From 4th to 6th October we organize the second year of the festival Rebel Prague (Vzpurná Praha). Lectures, discussions, workshops and screenings on housing affordability and the right to the city.

In Prague, rents are growing twice as fast as wages, real estate prices are rising astronomically, and the city government, after 30 years of privatization, is unwilling to propose an alternative to an unaffordable housing market. Meanwhile, in the media we hear from developers and economists working for big banks that there are two main reasons for the housing crisis: an insufficient amount of new construction and citizens who criticize what is being developed outside their windows. To a lesser extent, we hear that new flats are designated for rich investors and that new construction increases the price of surrounding real estate, pushing low-income inhabitants out of the districts they call home.

The new local government promised that Vienna – where housing is ensured by strong regulations – would be the model for Prague, but the proposed metropolitan plan just follows the notes of the free market. Those of us whose rents have skyrocketed thanks to the likes of Airbnb and whose functioning neighborhoods have been replaced by rowdy hotels know exactly how this song goes.

We want a city that will not subordinate itself to the will of the rich, a city that we will be able to form with our own hands and according to our own needs. Experiences from Prague and abroad demonstrate that we must strive for this goal ourselves – no one will do it for us. During Rebel Prague, we will together look for the reasons behind and solutions to unaffordable housing, thoughtless development, and uncontrolled tourism. In addition to lectures, walks, films, and case studies from abroad, we aim to create a space for meeting like-minded people, sharing experiences, and building coalitions for a democratic and affordable city.
