WILLIAM WILSON    1969
Directed by Louis Malle
40 minutes
In French with English subtitles

Alain Delon and Brigitte Bardot star in this Louis Malle adaption of a story by Edgar Allan Poe. The dialogue is based on the first French translation by poet Charles Baudelaire. The story follows a soldier in northern Italy who breaks down and confesses to a priest that he has committed a murder. As he recounts the brutal, perverse events of his life, his world becomes delirious and a doppelgänger begins to follow him. One of the most mysterious, eerie short stories by Poe.

THE BOOK OF MIKEY    2015
Directed by Bruno Ramos
65 minutes
In English/Dutch with English subtitles

Brazilian director Bruno Ramos is now living in Holland, and while he has been here he created this beautiful satire that combines the film noir genre with acute observations on the Dutch situation. It's so important that filmmaking starts to flourish here in the Netherlands, and this flick is a great example of what is possible. Made with passion on a zero budget, with an international cast and crew where everybody just chipping in, the film is funny, riveting and damn stylish.

When Mikey's father is on his deathbed in England, he tells his son the secret behind his mother's demise. It seems that things were very different than what he had been told. Now there is a mystery that needs to be solved, and his father tells Mikey to go to Amsterdam to search for the answers. The director has described this as a "black-comedy comic-book" movie, and it certainly has that visual flare.... along with a punchy sense of humor.

The director Bruno Ramos will be present at the screening on this evening!
