Fraai portret van filosoof, literair criticus, feminist en cultureel omnivoor. Een fenomeen in intellectuele kringen. Mrs. Sontag stelde zich ten doel zo niet alles, dan toch zoveel mogelijk te weten. Ze bedolf zich onder onafzienbare stapels boeken en ventileerde tussen de hoofdstukken door haar mening in essays en krantenartikelen.
