This meditative documentary by Sophie Fiennes about German artist Anselm Kiefer is mainly focused on La Ribaute, an enormous art-installation/gesamtkunstwerk on an abandoned industrial area in the south of France. With a soundtrack by avant garde composers Jörg Widmann and György Ligeti the images of the post-apocalyptic landscape become an ode to the abstract essence of humanity.
