Community meet up of QUACK (Queers Undoing Ableism Care Kollective)  -> NL (Queers Ontmantelen Validisme Zorg Kollectief)

[Face to face and online participation available. Scroll down for covid safety and accessibility.]

Let's create a community free of ableism and full of collective care <3 Our community meetings are for everyone who experiences ableism, including (but not limited to) neurodiverse, disabled, chronically ill and "crazy" people. Have you diagnosed yourself? You are welcome! Not sure if you are disabled, neurodiverse (etc.) enough for this meeting? You are also more than welcome! During this meeting it is encouraged to; stim, fidget, stand up, lie down, take a break by yourself if necessary. We have a collective responsibility to ensure that the needs of the participants are met during the meeting! This means that you make your own needs known and that you check with others if their needs are being met. The meeting will be in English, there will be vegan snacks, coffee and tea, but feel free to bring your own snacks.

About this month's meet-up:
Members of Quack take turns hosting these monthly hang-outs, and this time it's Mich and Jules :) In these late stage capitalist times, early January is usually a time when people make new year's resolutions to "improve themselves", become "better", more productive... Inspired by our experiences of chronic illnesses and disabilities which tend to get worse in winter, we propose to say fuck you to productivist new year's resolutions, and instead approach this winter period as a chance to center rest, slowness and regeneration in our lives. With this in mind, you are invited to these various activities:
- a group discussion about our experiences of not feeling enough: not productive enough, not disabled enough.. and sharing how we manage our capacities and body's needs.
- a quiet corner where you can pull tarot cards, read zines, and make yourself a mood board to visualise your rest & care resolutions for the season ahead.
- a collective warm-up moment where we'll go through various kinds of light touch to bring warmth to our hibernating bodies. This can be done on your own, or with 1 or 2 people.

- we will also share the community agreements we have been working on, which can be added to during the event.
All activities are optional, and you can stay as long or as little as you like!

Covid safety:

There will be free tests and FFP2 masks available at the entrance.
It is mandatory to do a self-test for covid before coming, or when you arrive. However, we recognise that negative results for self-testing are not very reliable, and that any infection, not just covid, can lead to long term health complications.
Therefore, if you test negative but have any symptom (sore throat, runny nose, fever, stomach issues...), we ask that you join the meeting online this time, even if you only have light symptoms and don't feel "ill". Unless it seems chronic illness related, in which case you can join with a mask.
If you have no symptoms but were recently in contact with someone who got sick, we ask that you wear a mask.
We understand that wearing a mask isn't always accessible (due to sensory overstimulation for example), so if wearing a mask isn't an option for you, please join the hang out online this time.
Thank you! You are also very welcome to wear a mask even if you don't have any symptoms that day.

Online attendance:

If you'd like to join online, send us an email by 4 January included and we'll send you the jisti link at the start of the event: quack@disroot.org
There will be a laptop set up in the quiet corner of the space, where the craft activity will be happening. The laptop will be muted most of the time so that you don't hear all the noise from the various things happening in the physical space (we will all be doing different things in one room). That way the people online will be able to have their own conversations too.
The hosts present at Budapest will do their best to check in with the online people from time to time throughout the event, and to include them when we are doing something which you can follow from the laptop (such as the warm-ups).

Accessibility about the space:

Budapest is a social space from the WG housing collective, it has wheelchair access and a wheelchair accessible toilet, it has one couch, several tables, wooden chairs and one more comfy chair. We arrange a place to lay down behind the bar for naps. The lighting is with warm coloured lamps that are not very bright. The entrance for the space is through the garden, using stairs, people who cannot use stairs can enter through the street entrance but there is no doorbell so please email us beforehand if you want to use the no stairs entrance: quack@disroot.org Both entrances are through Pesthuislaan.

No need to rsvp for physical attendance, just turn up.

What to bring: your own fidget toys, books/zines/any materials you'd like to share, any ableism/saneism/healthism related subjects or questions you'd like to think through with others.

Hope to see you then!
