Come to Amsterdam and you’ll notice it immediately: it has been turned into the perfect place for consumption, while all the alternatives are nowhere to be found. Every street feels the same and all stores look alike. René Boer, an urban researcher and organizer, has coined the term smooth city to explain this phenomenon. We will discuss what it means, where it came from and will ask the (potential) activists in the room: how do we resist it? How do we create a porous city instead? The event will be organized in Takland, a squat in the middle of the Kalverstraat and the Rokin, two of the smoothest streets of Amsterdam. Seats are limited so come on time. See you there!
