THE KILLERS 1946Directed by Robert Siodmak97 minutesIn English
Wow, what a classic. This movie plunges you deep into the night, with a story that involves treachery and crime, along with a mysterious woman (Ava Gardner) who no man can nail down. " src="/profiles/radar/modules/contrib/wysiwyg/plugins/break/images/spacer.gif" title="<--break-->">This is a haunting movie that follows Burt Lancaster in his debut role as a gas station employee with a shady past. But when two professional killers show up at the local cafeteria, looking to hunt him down and knock him off, his tragic story is revealed, and the movie swirls and unravels.
The screenplay was written by John Huston, based on the famous short story by Ernest Hemingway. The painter Edward Hopper loved this story so much it inspired his painting Nighthawks at the Diner. There have been three film versions, including a 1956 short by Andrei Tarkovsky, but this version, crafted by German emigré Robert Siodmak in 1946, is considered the masterpiece. The high-contrast cinematography of this flick is legendary, and it set the benchmark for film noir with it's long heavy shadows, which drench the characters in a fatalistic gloom. The chemistry between the two leads - Lancaster and Eva Gardner - is so hot that it's absolutely explosive.
This will be a high-definition projection of this brilliantly dark classic.
