DAIMARU (JP) & TOS + QUANTIUS (DE) & MOTTEL (US)
a visual unit vs a drone master | improv | vocal lo-jinx vs keyboard gronk.
DAIMARU is a visual unit formed by Daijiro Hama, an artist based in The Hague, the Netherlands, and Masato Tokumaru, a filmmaker based in Kyoto. Daijiro's improvised drawings and paintings are projected live into the space, while Tokumaru uses various materials and effects to mix and develop on the video. Together with sound artists, DJs and performers, through communication that responds to multilingual expressions born from their respective fields, they create works that share time and space while involving the viewers who are there.
Tos Nieuwenhuizen, aka Tos, is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and 'amp wizard’ based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Beginning his career in the late 1970s with various punk bands and collaborations with Dischord Records artists, Tos would be known for his tenure with the alternative rock band GOD and as a recurring contributor to the Dutch stoner rock band Beaver. Since the late 1990s, he has been a tour manager and technician for the Norwegian rock group Motorpsycho. Since 2005 he has been a live keyboardist and recurring contributor to the drone doom collective Sunn O))). He is also the 'amp wizard' of Amsterdam, the tube amp doctor who has been repairing gear for decades in a way no one can imitate.

The German vocal artist Mik Quantius can, after being continuously abducted by aliens, only produce sounds from outer space. Originally Mik Quantius was involved in the metal scene of Cologne, but in recent years he joined several avant-garde projects. For instance: he is a member of the legendary German Krautrock band EMBRYO and he took part in ‘Way of the Cross’, an improvisational project of Dave Nuss of the NO NECK BLUES BAND, with musicians like Kuupuu, The Skaters, Stellar Om Source and Kemialliset Yvsatat. Mik Quantius has an enormous vocal range and his diction is occasionally comparable to CAPTAIN BEEFHEART, but a little weirder. Reoccurring are the absurd sounds that fly out of his throat, often touching the threshold of pain. He is a scat maestro, who rather uses his body as an instrument than to sing. The thrilling sounds you will hear during performances of Mik Quantius will remain in your memory for a long time.
Matthew Mottel, is an internationally recognized musician and artist, performing most notably with Talibam! for the past twenty years. His visage should be familiar to anyone who’s been going to shows in NYC in the past ten years. He’s been hanging around NYC clubs since he was like 16, and dropping electric mind bombs with his synthesizer in those clubs nearly as long with folks like Karole Armitage, Rhys Chatham, Awesome Color, Akron/Family, Jeffrey Lewis, Grizzly Bear, Kenny Wollesen, Chris Corsano, Ras Moshe, Cooper-Moore, Sean Meehan, and many others.

Mik Quantius, Matt Mottel – Haus Record (2022, CDr, Chocolate Monk)
The proof is in the recordings, friends.... we ARE living in the Middle Ages. Forget about Get Back and listen to two munt minds meet in Cologne for a domestic sit down/session of liquids, smoke and keyboard gronk. HEAR them attempt to stave off serfdom with Yamaha hoodoo and get into it with the Quantius vocal lo-jinx which if cranked loud enough is sure to suck the colour from any nearby tie-dye shirts. Ten happy fingers, two throbbing brains.
