On Wednesday 21.04 an Asylum seeker in the AZC Echt has caused several injuries and left 2 dead. This is yet another case of very serious mental health situations from this facility. Almost on a monthly basis, we hear news about suicides within this facility. Marlen is only the most recent examples. Scientists from the Radboud University in Nijmegen have just released a report in which they consider the Dutch immigration system as inherently inhumane.

However, the issue does not lie within a lack of psychological support within these facilities, it is the very existence of them. Along with over 400 other refugees, they are located far away from any social life and the immigrants are therefore intentionally isolated from the rest of society. It is illegal for them to work, to build their own life. Furthermore, they undergo an asylum procedure that takes up to several years in which they are limited to these conditions. All of this makes a fertile ground for serious mental health issues.

Op woensdag 21.04 heeft een asielzoeker in het AZC Echt meerdere verwondingen veroorzaakt en 2 doden achtergelaten. Dit is het zoveelste voorbeeld van de vreselijke geestelijke gezondheidssituaties in dit AZC. Bijna maandelijks horen we nieuws over zelfmoorden binnen deze faciliteit. Marlen is slechts het meest recente voorbeeld. Wetenschappers van de Radboud Universiteit in Nijmegen hebben zojuist een rapport uitgebracht waarin ze het Nederlandse immigratiesysteem als inherent onmenselijk beschouwen.

Het probleem ligt echter niet in een gebrek aan psychologische ondersteuning binnen deze instellingen, het problewn is het bestaan ​​ervan zelf. Samen met meer dan 400 andere vluchtelingen bevinden ze zich ver weg van het sociale leven en zijn de immigranten daarom opzettelijk geïsoleerd van de rest van de samenleving. Werken om een eigen leven op te bouwen is hen verboden. Bovendien doorlopen ze een asielprocedure die enkele jaren in beslag neemt en waarin ze beperkt zijn tot deze voorwaarden. Dit alles vormt een vruchtbare voedingsbodem voor ernstige psychische problemen.
