The film examines women’s shared oppression under patriarchy and the effects of this. (London Feminist Film Festival).
Marleen Gorris' debut film from 1982 was controversial, won the Golden Calf as well as the Grand Prix of the Créteil International Women's Film Festival - and it became an instant feminist classic. Nearly 40 years after, it is still a relevant and intriguing film – and an piece of Amsterdam history, now that the prison, the Bijlmerbajes, has been torn down.
