Women's Work: Honeymoon
Short url:
Cinema of the Dam'd is proud to present Women's Work, an ongoing series of recent films by emerging female directors. In October, we look at some of the best horror films directed by women. Tonight, Leigh Janiak's nerve-wracking horror debut Honeymoon (2014).
Young newlyweds Bea (Rose Leslie) and Paul (Harry Treadaway) travel to a secluded lakeside cabin for a romantic honeymoon. But after Bea goes sleepwalking in the woods one night, her personality starts slipping away. Leigh Janiak's frightening fusion of sci-fi, horror, and romance tropes offers a fresh and subversive take on the body snatcher subgenre. Leslie is alternately heartbreaking and scary as a woman desperately hanging on to her humanity, while Janiak builds a potent atmosphere of doom and dread. Watch the trailer.
Directed by Leigh Janiak, 2014, USA, 87 minutes, In English.
