THE HUMAN TORNADO   1976 Directed by Cliff Roquemore 96 minutes In English

The great, groovy, really hip Rudy Ray Moore had a bold style and took loads of risks. He was a powerhouse of energy and lyricism. His poetic rants mixed with his black liberation struggle in a racist world remain unparalleled since he let go of the reins.

In this flick Rudy Ray Moore continues his role as Dolemite, a fierce black man who kicks back against the system. No parliamentary voting procedures for him - he has no time for representational politics. Instead, he is gonna take things into his own hands. When Dolemite is thrown out of town by a racist police force, he returns to L.A. and finds that the Mafia has taken over the city, especially the club of his lover Queen Bee. Dolemite uses all the resources at his disposal to knock the shit out of the system. Like all of the films by Rudy Ray Moore, this one has a low-budget, handmade quality, counterbalanced by a crazy imagination. It is a horror film, a comedy, a thriller, an anti-racist statement... it's the entire gamut of human emotions. There's also a strong camp aspect to it, alongside a host of crooked cops, wicked dialogue and insane funkadelic clothing. Ray always had some wild cinematic tricks up his sleeve, and that is so refreshing in our present world of stale formula remakes. Rudy's films have a sharp sense of humour, and this one ends with a mind-blowing climax. The kind of film that cries to be seen with a great audience.

This will be a high-definition screening of a rare 1970s cult classic.
