Soft images that evoke questions (and perhaps answer them, too?), rooms and travellers, a distinct choice in colors and atmosphere, autobiographical elements: Silvia Martes’ work revolves around themes of identity and space.

Since her graduation in 2013, Martes has made nine short films, won various prizes and was granted a residency in the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten (State Academy of Visual Art) for the coming year. About time for an evening devoted to her work!

After a brief introduction, we will screen five of her short films, among which the premiere of Terra Incognita (2018). Afterwards we will discuss Martes’ work and the philosophy of space with the artist herself.
