FIST OF FURY    1972 (The Chinese Connection, Jing wu men) Directed by Lo Wei. 102 minutes. In Mandarin with English subtitles

Generally considered to be one of the very best of all Bruce Lee's flicks, this cult classic was the film that catapulted Bruce Lee to international fame. His movies before this one were more ragged, more patchy, and less visceral. Different movies have different motivations. Some films are story-driven, others are more visual. This one is neither - it's physical, with Bruce Lee at the core of the film's spirit. I have to mention again, for those who know almost nothing about Bruce Lee, that what we have here is someone who transforms martial arts into a ballet with both his fierce elegance and physical presence. There had been nothing like Bruce Lee before, and there will never be again.

Bruce Lee was an American martial arts master, but was the victim of such intense racism in Hollywood that he was forced to work in Honk Kong. When he was on the verge of international stardom, he died mysteriously in 1973 at the tender age of 33. This film is quite an epic, and follows the main character's teacher, who gets caught up in a war between Japan and China Bruce Lee's character goes on a journey to find out who was responsible for his murder. But once again, the plot is not what is important here... it is the pure cinematic charisma of Lee, along with the beauty of his martial-arts choreography. Shot in ultra wide-screen, this is another flick that just cries to be experienced on the big screen!

This will be a high definition projection.
