F/1.4 delves into the complex legacy of the Iran-Iraq War (1980–1988) through the lens of photography, examining its dual role as documentation and propaganda. Used by the authoritarian leadership of the Islamic Republic to reframe loss and violence as acts of religious devotion and sacrifice, the iconic war photographs are being revisited in retrospective conversations with nine war photographers and four Iranian scholars. Using 101 archival photographs alongside newsreels and critical perspectives from the postwar generations, the film exposes tensions between art, propaganda, and memory, revising and challenging both aesthetic and ethical choices in the context of the war.
