After the hangover from our Porn Film Festival and big anniversary party last year, Cavia continues its series of 40 films in celebration of our cinema’s history. This time, Lina Wertmüller takes the screen once again, with this Spaghetti Western starring Elsa Martinelli. It is the only Spaghetti Western to be directed by a woman - she replaced director Piero Cristofani (using the pseudonym “Nathan Wich”) a few days into the shoot. Abused and dominated by men in her youth, Belle Starr now out-rides, out-smokes, out-shoots, and out-gambles them as she makes her way around the Old West.

This screening is part of ‘40 chairs, 40 films, 40 years’, Filmhuis Cavia’s 40th-anniversary program held throughout 2023 and 2024, rewiring and re-reeling images from our past, projecting new ones towards our future.
