Competition, loneliness, atomization, consuming, dogma….

The capitalist access to culture and knowledge carries it's ideology and values. This ideology is now the base of our consumption habits and behaviors. The knowledge is servicing the market and not the common interest. Furthermore, inside the community and social movements, we reproduce the same patterns of consumption, we follow “alternative” trends, and we lack a critical analysis of our ways of life. That´s why, perhaps, there is a poor impact of social/political movements and base initiatives in the society.

We want to develop a space for meeting to share knowledge away of the logics of capitalist consuming, to spread the idea of the community, to potentiate the impact of social/political movements and base initiatives through the consolidation and analysis in depth of our ideas, to create knowledge servicing the common interest and a folk culture targeting consciousness, to promote cooperation instead of competition and to expand the critical analysis of our lives.

With this aim, we are going to organize groups of study/discussion about different topics which are going to meet periodically. In the beginning, we are going to have just general branches, like Science, Philosophy and Politics, Physical Education, Languages, Arts and Crafts, Mysticism and Technics. However, this general branches may diversify if necessary or there might be new  proposals of new groups or branches if there’s people interested. Although we are going to propose a fixed program for the first month, this program is going to be organized by all the participants once the groups are consolidated. These groups will decide also the periodicity and the methodology to follow in the sessions, which may go from collective lectures to debates, talks made by an expert in the topic, seminars prepared by the mates, discussions, presentations and so on. Every group may evaluate their work retrospectively if they want. The whole Athenaeum (all the participants) is going to meet once a month to make the program for the next one together, existing the possibility of that two or more groups conflux at some point in one session which is of interest of everyone.

Next Saturday the 25th of July we are going to present you this beautiful and open project in order to find out which are our interests and in which group can we match better, form the groups and start recognizing the knowledge we have around us.

To make the day funnier we will have a Capoeira Angola exhibition, vegan food by a cooperation and natural fruit juices! Come and join us!
