The second edition of Screen Queens, your friendly Rietveld Academy based queer film club, is proud to present the must-see documentary The Celluloid Closet.

The film, based on the book and presentations by Vito Russo, is a crash course on the representations of LGBTQ+ folks in Hollywood cinema.
Film industry insiders such as Tom Hanks, Whoopi Goldberg, Susan Sarandon and more, provide their insights and experiences watching and working on queer films.

From archetypes and comic reliefs, through strict censorship secrecy, and subtle queerness and onto issues in current cinema, The Celluloid Closet is guaranteed to educate and extend your To-Watch lists.

dir. Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, 1995
English spoken, 1 hour 41 minutes

This time, Screen Queens is kindly hosted by Bollox, anarchist day-cafe of the Binnenpret collective.

The address is Eerste Schinkelstraat 16, next to the give-away shop.
