The Brockley Anarchist Reading Club is excited to dive into two essays by Murray Bookchin: The Future of the Left and The Communalist Project. These are chapters one and nine of Murray Bookchin's book The Next Revolution.

Bookchin argues that capitalism and hierarchical systems cannot simply be reformed, but need to be replaced by a society based on direct democracy and libertarian municipalism. Rejecting centralised state socialism, he imagines a network of self-governing communities working together to create greater freedom. Rather than leaving politics to politicians, Bookchin challenges us to build grassroots power from the ground up, transforming our towns and neighbourhoods into centres of popular decision-making.
