The life and legacy of Dmitry Petrov
Short url:
Dmitry “Leshy” Petrov, Finnbar “Chia” Cafferkey, Cooper Andrews – three Anarchist fighters, three friends coming from Russia, Ireland and the United States – with arms in their hands went to defend the Ukrainian town Bakhmut against Putin’s aggression as international volunteers. On April 19, during the fierce fighting between the Wagner mercenaries and the exhausted defenders, the news comes. Our three international volunteers are missing in action. They have never been found. Neither alive nor dead.
But they are with us – on the posters, in articles, in poems, songs, memories of friends. And in films, T-shirts, wall paintings and in the book “Parents’ Day” by Dmitry Petrov Sr., the father of one of the heroes. He is going to present his son's story and the book about invincible love, misunderstanding, friendship, debate, sympathy, rage and boundless desire for freedom.
Dmitry Petrov Sr. is a journalist and writer, author of several fiction and non-fiction books. In the 1980s, he participated in the first anarchist initiatives of the Soviet era. And he has been a membet of antimilitarist and anti-etatist movements (with some breaks) up to the present day. He will speak at the Autonomous Centre 254 (Argentinská street no. 18, Prague) at an event organised by the Anarchist Federation, which has long supported anti-fascists defending Ukraine against imperialist aggression.
