Cinema of the Dam'd is proud to present Women's Work, an ongoing series of recent films by emerging female directors. This month, we highlight Jessie Jeffrey Dunn Rovinelli's ravishing experimental feature So Pretty (2019), about four young queers living in a proto-utopian community in New York City.

Transgender artist Tonia (writer-director Rovinelli) meets American boyfriend Franz (Thomas Love) in New York City, and begins work on an exhibition devoted to gay German author Ronald M. Schernikau. Forging a queer household with another young couple, Paul (Edem Dela-Seshie) and Erika (Rachika Samarth), they engage in protest and find their lives merging with Schernikau's 1980s novel So Schön. Jessie Jeffrey Dunn Rovinelli's audacious experimental drama investigates femme identity and queer community, while moving freely between fiction and semi-documentary. Shooting on lovely 16mm, Rovinelli gracefully maps a space of potential for emerging bodies, desires, and forms of communal resistance. Watch the trailer.
