Masha Godovannaya: “The program presents a few films which I made solitary or in collaboration with the diasporic Russian-speaking queer community in Vienna (and beyond) during the last three years. The films keep traces of going through the Covid-19 pandemic, battling social isolation, collectively exploring urban spaces, articulating the unexplainable, performing spontaneously in front of the camera, making up scripts, words, and sounds on the fly, and overall – celebrating our other-than-western queerness through, with and as cinema.
As in our collective film Gender Doltulation refers to an abyss into which we masterfully fall and brashly plunge, DIY experimental cinema becomes a political utopia, a cherished, unknown land, a place that exists between and for us. Cinema propels us to master the art of our everyday losing, cope with pain, cherish our feelings, nourish erotic knowledges, insist on resisting and continuing with our struggles, and make visual ephemeral documents for our shared archives of queer history and futurity.”
