Glasgow Autonomous Space (GAS) is an autonomous social centre that provides space for groups working to fight capitalism and other forms of oppression. GAS was established in 2016 when we took on the lease of a large warehouse building in Tradeston, Glasgow. It was a daunting prospect! A huge, cold and cavernous space. Over the last few years, with the help of hundreds of different people, we have converted into the space it is today—an ever changing, ever growing, social centre full of established groups and endless opportunities for new and exciting things!
So far we have built a library, herbal clinic dispensary, kitchen, wood workshop, print workshop, meeting space, toilets, a garden with a greenhouse and a shed!
Anyone can book GAS by checking to see when the calendar is free and dropping us and email to say when you would like it and what for. GAS was built for groups fighting oppression and prioritises the groups that don't have access to other spaces. It also hosts events that are in solidarity with its 'vision' like DIY gigs, lectures, film screenings, fundraisers, creative stuff and even fitness classes!
