Short url:
Cinema of the Dam'd is proud to present Women's Work, an ongoing series of recent films by emerging female directors. In October, we look at some of the best horror films directed by women. Tonight, Jennifer Kent's magnificent monster tale The Babadook (2014).
Still haunted by her husband's death, sleep-deprived Amelia (Essie Davis) struggles to raise six-year old Samuel (Noah Wiseman), who suffers from an overactive imagination. When an creepy storybook mysteriously appears in their home, it summons an evil force: the Babadook. Jennifer's Kent's superbly-crafted debut, combines supernatural shocks with psychological horror, in a potent examination of maternal angst. Released in 2014, this Australian import rocked film fests and topped critic's lists, but went undistributed in Dutch theaters. Don't miss your chance to see it on the big screen. Watch the trailer.
Directed by Jennifer Kent, 2014, Australia, 94 minutes. In English.
