Submission Deadline: Call for Submissions: As We Know It

The year is 2345, and human life as we know it has become unrecognisable. Hosted in a former atomic fallout shelter in the centre of Amsterdam’s Vondelpark, ‘As We Know It’ asks artists to interpret the relics of our shattered present. Was riding in an automobile vehicular object a spiritual practice? What is the relationship between a bagel, a donut, a roll of tape and a CD-ROM, and why do they all have holes in the centre? What is this polyethylene terephthalate material, and why was it designed to last forever?
Vondelbunker
The space was originally planned for use as a bomb shelter as civil defence measure in the 1940’s. The structure was designed to accommodate 2600 people as an attempt to preserve humanity from impending doom. There are still 1940’s era air filtration systems and a six person bicycle generating power station concealed within the bunker’s belly that can be used for site specific installations. The Vondelbunker is now an autonomous cultural centre facilitated by volunteers sharing the conviction that space is political by running an unruly program with the motto that failure is an option.
Open Call
All mediums are welcome. Painting, writing, poetry, videos, sculpture, photography, virtual reality etc. Accepting submissions from artists, producers, writers, performers, thinkers and doers inspired by the idea of reinterpreting the present for a two-day exhibition at the end of June.
