Prenons La Ville
Short url:
On July 1, 2017, 1500 of us marched through the streets of Geneva against the planned eviction of the Malagnou collective house and for the Right to the City. There was a common desire not to be crushed by the disastrous evolution of the city, which is primarily aimed at self-managed places, at everything that does not fit into the administration's narrow spaces. More generally, the inhabitants are suffering the consequences of a development policy led by the right and the real estate sector and oriented above all towards profit: increase in rents, gentrification of working class neighbourhoods, aseptisation and privatisation of public space, widespread surveillance and attacks on the right to demonstrate.
Who owns the city? This is a question that can only be answered in practice, in struggles and on the streets, because the authorities too often remain deaf to our needs. A city should belong to its inhabitants, not be used for the benefit of a privileged few.
