Giuseppe Makes a Movie

GIUSEPPE MAKES A MOVIE 2014
Directed by Adam Rifkin
82 minutes

Take the plunge into this bizarre documentary film and see what happens! That's what independent filmmaker Giuseppe Andrews does. Besides acting in more mainstream flicks such as American History X, Cabin Fever, and Detroit Rock City, there is a more whacked-out side to Giuseppe's life. He spends most of his time haunting the local trailer parks of Ventura, California where he makes underground movies with the rejects and outcasts of our society.
Director Adam Rifkin has made a fantastic portrait of this eccentric artist Giuseppe Andrews. All the chaos, all the insanity, all of the excitement of this madman who uses handwritten scripts, shoots his movies within 48 hours, and lives on sardines and rice. It's hard not to be touched by such passion. He has cranked out over 30 independent films... and instead of being depressed that he has less than $1,000 to make an entire movie, Giuseppe gets excited by the challenge of this limitation and throws himself into the cinematic bullring.
But Giuseppe does have his idols... European auteurs like Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Pasolini and Luis Buñuel... and even though he struggles to even pronounce their names, he gets all excited just talking about them. I guess he sees himself in the same ball park of artistic freedom, rebellion, mad dreams and resistance to compromise. Director Adam Rifkin has made some pretty unusual films over the years (for example his movie Look, which was shot entirely with surveillance cameras) but this one proves to be his shinning gem.
One viewer's response: "Director Adam Rifkin managed an impossible feat by capturing Giuseppe's insane process yet managing to find the humanity amid the madness. This is an utterly captivating and heartfelt documentary. Giuseppe Makes A Movie is simply 82 minutes of lightning in a bottle."
This will be a high-definition screening.
