Experiments in Play: New voices in Art

Short url:

New Voices in Art” is a game for 15 to 25 people played through improvised social interaction. As a player, you will be playing a version of yourself in an alternate reality, in which you are an innovative new artist invited to a gallery exhibition showcasing your work alongside that of other ground-breaking artists, who together constitute the exciting “New Voices in Art”.
When you arrive, you´ll be assigned at random a piece of art in the gallery to be “made by you” and then given at random a short description about how your artist character feels about it, ranging from “this is my masterpiece, it took 7 years to create” to “I have creative block, I´m so ashamed” to “this was a joke, can´t believe the curators accepted it!”
The game then plays out like a party where people are chatting, networking, flirting, discussing art, and mostly having a good time. Through just a few game mechanics on top of the social interaction, the game lets players explore themes about ambition, creativity, yearning, and the contrast between what one feels and what one says in public.
The game will last one hour and be preceded by an hour beforehand where we explain the rules of the game & help you warm up!
“New Voices in Art” is written by Norwegian designers Tor Kjetil Edland, Arvid Falch and Erling Rognli and is actually a larp scenario! But shhhhh – this is probably unlike anything you associate with the word “larp” and probably more like what you´d associate with impro theater or parlour games. We want to encourage you to leave your preconceptions at the door & just try it out. We think this kind of game allows people to get into a creative mindset and also explore a wide range of emotions in a safe environment.
No preparation or acting skills are required and you can be as active or passive as you want during the game. Entrance is free, but you might want to bring cash (not PIN) to buy drinks from the bar.
