Non-EU Student Stories: The cancellation of the visa of a Turkish artist in Vienna
Short url:
Are you a student from a non-European country, or are you interested in showing solidarity with non-European students? We invite you to participate in our info session! Our aim is to get to know each other and organize ourselves. Furthermore, we want to reflect together on our situation as non-European students, on the laws that affect us, the double tuition fees, the labour market restrictions, the financial problems we are facing in times of pandemic and the lack of public financial support, among other issues. In this session Dilruba Balak, who was criminalized for trying to be a student in Vienna will be speaking about her experiences on her student visa application and the problems that she faced since 2018. She could never start her studies in die Angewandte Kunst Wien but instead she is still seeking her legal rights in the courts of Austria. Through her story we would like to discuss the bureaucratic manner of Austria towards non-EU students and to remind ourselves that the inequality had been there for a long time. Within that event, we also would like to hear your own experiences on inequality that you are dealing as non-EU students with to create more solutions together. Please come by and share your ideas, feelings and experiences! We look forward to meeting you!More background information can be found here:
