Director: Ersin Çelik
War feature shot in the Kurdistan of Syria, in the middle of the armed conflict. The film tells the real story of resistance of a group of young people who faced the army to defend their neighbourhood and it is written based on the diaries of those who died and the testimony of the survivors, who also act in the film.
The protagonist is Zilan, a young woman who returns to her hometown looking for the memory of her dead brother, to find herself involved in a violent fight against the police and the army. The film explores universal concepts such as hope, friendship, sacrifice and loss in the struggle for freedom of a group of young people.
The story of the film was composed of the common emotion of the resistance in Sur district of Diyarbakir agains siege in 2015 for 100 days, and its important sections. The main part of the filming was made in Kobane. The location was on the borders of Turkey. At that time there was a great battle against ISIS in Rawwa city. During the shootings, the Turkish army began to bomb Afrin.
The director, Ersin Çelik was born in 1984 in Malatya, Turkey. In 2006, he graduated from Samsun OMU Physical Sciences Teaching Department. He chose journalism instead of teaching and worked as a reporter and regional news manager at Dicle News Agency until 2010. He attended the Cinema Workshops at the Cigerxwin Cultural Center in Diyarbakır. In 2010-2013 he worked as an editor, cameraman and program coordinator at Sim Production. # PHOTO EXCIBITION:
The resolution process that started between the Kurdish freedom movement and Turkey in the spring of 2013 was terminated by Erdogan in 2015.Bomb attacks were carried out against Kurdish civilians in the summer of 2015, and the Turkish state was defending that these bomb attacks were carried out by ISIS.
YPS (Civil Protection Units) and YPS-JIN(Civil Protection Units- Women) were established by organizing the Kurdish youth after the civilian casualties. Shortly after the YPS and YPS-JIN were established, resistance began in Sur, Şırnak, Idil, Yüksekova, Varto, Cizre, Nusaybin, and Silopi. Diyarbakir's Sur district was one of the places where the resistance and war were most intense.
The exhibition features photos that report on these events.
