Reading Group #24 – Anarchism, Wars of Agression, and Imperial Occupation: 1939-1945
Short url:
The London Anarchist Federation’s monthly reading group will have its twenty fourth session on the 26th of April at 19:00 at Decentre, just above Freedom Bookshop (84B Whitechapel High St, London, E1 7QX). The bookshop will likely be closed by that time so we will be using the back door to the freedom building, further into the alleyway than the bookshop entrance.
In the context of the war in Ukraine and the debates in the left about it, we will be discussing two articles on the history of anarchists in times of aggression wars and imperial military occupations. The first article gives a general overview of the positions and actions of anarchists during the Second World War, while the second examines how the French anarchists acted and positioned themselves during the German military occupation of the French territory. We hope it will spark a constructive, respectful and interesting debate on this issue.
Anarcho-Syndicalism during the Second World War
1939-1945: Anarchist activity in France during World War II
Those who are the most interested in the topic can also read also the section on anarchists of this article, although it is a facultative reading and thus not necessary to read for participating in our discussion:
1914-1946: Third camp internationalists in France during World War II
This goes without saying, but we do not endorse all the actions and publications of their respective authors.
Hopefully it will pique your interest. Attending every month is not a requirement – just come along when we’re discussing a topic or a text you like!
