Feminist Fightback Filmclub presents: The Modi Question- Joint film screening with Peace in India
Short url:
Join Peace in India and Feminist Fightback for a screening of the recent BBC documentary, "The Modi Question", which examines the Indian Prime Minister's role in deadly sectarian riots in 2002 and the impact of his government's Hindu supremacist policies on India's Muslim communities.
The documentary and the Indian Government's moves to ban it are illustrative examples of the hard right's transnational reach, and its authoritarianism. The documentary caused uproar in the corporate media in India, was banned on Twitter, and has led the Indian government to raid the BBC India offices. All this, for bringing to international audiences what Indian journalists have known for quite some time, but which a servile corporate media - and 'friendly' Western governments - have been all too eager to ignore.
We will be joined for a discussion via Zoom by three student activists in India who have faced incarceration for expressing dissent with the policies of the BJP government, and experienced brutal violence perpetrated by the BJP’s student wing:
- Aishe Ghosh, student leader and politician from the Student Federation of India and former President of Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union
- Natasha Narwal, activist with the student feminist collective Pinjra Tod
- Safoora Zargar, student leader and campaigner fighting for justice for atrocities committed against the Muslim community in India
All genders welcome.
