Girls Rock London are celebrating another amazing year of camps, workshops, gigs and industry events by having an End-of-Year Party on Wednesday 18th December at DIY Space for London and you’re all invited!
We will be having an 🥁open jam session🎸 where anyone can get up and play together, improvise, play covers, or play exciting new versions of your own songs if you wish! We will provide the instruments, chord charts and lyrics for a range of covers you can play with the GRL HOUSE BAND! There is no pressure to perform but we highly encourage it! (Beginners especally!)
The evening will also feature some short sets by GRL volunteer bands!
This event is open to anyone and everyone who wants to come celebrate with us! However, in true GRL style, we will only be inviting women, trans, and gender non-conforming people to perform on the night. Men can still come to appreciate their incredible friends’ music making if they wish, but we ask that you take a step back from performing for the evening!
🍛💕🌮 There will be vegan food catering available to buy during the night!
💚 What is DIY Space for London? 💚
DIY Space For London is a cooperatively-run social centre located in South London, just off Old Kent Road. We offer low cost creative facilities, meeting rooms and social space as well as space for screenings, talks and performances. The space works to promote the ideas of mutual aid (helping each other) and cooperation (working together). Providing a welcoming space for everyone, including those whose voices and contributions are not always heard or appreciated, is a top priority for us.
To attend (or put on) an event, you need to be a member, which costs £2 a year and can be done in a few minutes online: https://membermojo.co.uk/diyspaceforlondon/
Members have a say in how the space is run. You can join a collective, where you can get involved in the day-to-day running of DSFL and receive training in new skills.
💜 Accountability Agreement 💜
DSFL is committed to amplifying the voices of people who, outside of this place, do not always get heard as loudly, or whose experiences and opinions are all-too-often thought of as less important or valid.
We want all our fellow members and the guests they bring along to agree to a way of being, doing and interacting in the space so that we can work together to make some amazing stuff happen.
We call these ideas our “accountability agreement” and they can be found here: https://diyspaceforlondon.org/accountability/
