Improve Your Improv! - First Timers Songwriting Workshop

Short url:

https://squ.at/r/6un4

Learn how to come up with new ideas for riffs and melodies with experienced musician Lisa Taktouk.
💖About the workshop💖
Explore the possibilities of songwriting by letting go of your musical inhibitions by making sound randomly, otherwise known as improvising. But don’t let yourself be scared by thoughts of 30 minute free jazz solos! No prior musical knowledge is necessary, the focus is on self-expression using only three notes to keep it simple. This workshop is open to people playing any instrument.
There are 15 places for this workshop. Book a place in advance to avoid disappointment. Tickets are £5 (+booking fee). We aim to make our workshops as accessible as possible, so if you would like to come but cannot afford the ticket price, you can reserve a place by emailing firsttimers@diyspaceforlondon.org
💖About Lisa💖
Lisa started playing the guitar at a conservatoire in Paris when she was 7 years old. Now she focuses a lot on Afro-Brazilian percussion and the drum kit. She is also studying composing, arranging and soul/gospel/jazz vocals evening courses at Goldsmiths.
💖 About First Timers Fest 💖
FTF is a season of workshops followed by a two-day festival where every band plays its first show. FTF is about getting new faces and voices in bands, and doing something about the lack of diversity in the make-up of the DIY music community.
As a direct way of addressing the lack of diversity in the make-up of the DIY music community, our workshops centre people who are disabled (visible or non-visible), LGBTQIA+ folk, people of colour, and women. As well, we are here to support people who have never played in a band before // never played the instrument they’ve always wanted to learn before because of their class, race, gender, mental health, etc.
Our 2019 festival will be taking place on May 4th & 5th 2019. Applications from new bands to play are open: INSERT LINK

💖 About the venue, DIY Space for London 💖

On entering the venue there is a small ramp, which is quite steep and might require assistance going up and down. If you are a wheelchair user and not travelling with anyone, let us know in advance you are coming so someone at the venue can be there to assist.
