Monday 30th April: Mental Health and Zero Tolerance Schooling
Join us for a discussion on the mental health impacts of increasingly rigid structures, ‘zero tolerance’ and policies of exclusion, that are increasingly the norm in secondary and some primary schools across London (particularly schools serving working class communities and people of colour) and what we can do to challenge this culture.
If you have a chance, read this brief article beforehand which we’ll use to kick off the discussion.

This discussion follows from last month’s Radical Education Forum and Psychologists for Social Change (PSC) joint session about how we as educators and mental health campaigners might work together to take collectively action to resist oppressive policies and government infringement into education practice, mental health services and social welfare?
Radical Education Forum meets at the Common House, 5e Pundersons Gardens, Bethnal Green, E2 9QG, on the last Monday of each month (Note: May’s meeting will  actually be 21st May, not at Common House,
instead at MayDay Rooms (88 Fleet St EC4Y 1DH) to avoid meeting during
bank holiday/half term)

The *Radical Education Forum* is a group of people working in a wide range of educational settings who meet monthly to discuss radical pedagogical theories and techniques, and contemporary issues of interest to those involved in education. We are interested in how these theories and questions can inform our practice. The Forum supports social justice in education, linking practitioners within mainstream educational institutions, community education initiatives, social movements, arts organisations and self-organised groups.
Meetings are held on the last Monday of every month at the Common House from 7-9pm and are open to all. The Common House, Unit 5E Pundersons Gardens, Bethnal Green, London E2 9QG, http://commonhouse.org.uk/
We launched the Radical Education Workbook Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the London Anarchist Bookfair at Queen Mary University – and have kept going – for almost 10 years now!!

The Common House is an experiment in building a commons – by which we mean a resource that is organised and structured by our collective activity as a community and not by money or property rights. We always want new groups and people to get involved in running the space.
