Inter Arma (US) are difficult to pigeonhole - and have been since the beginning of their career. Elements of sludge, stoner and psychedelic rock as well as doom, black and death metal can be found in their music. The quintet from Richmond, Virginia, creates terrible and often haunting portraits of humanity using organic but also mystical and modern sounds. Concise brevity can be found in Inter Armas' repertoire as well as crushing, protracted escalations. It always remains interesting, no matter what. On stage, they are a particularly impressive force and know how to bring their sophisticated compositions to life with bravura.
New Heaven - their sixth album and first album of originals in five years - is an impressive testament to perseverance. Its ever-dense thicket of doom, death and black metal allows light to shine through here and there: Fleeting encouragements not to give up in the midst of all the chaos surrounding us, but to keep going.
Accordingly, Inter Arma are among the most intense that the metal scene has had to offer for a long time. If you don't know them, you've missed out!

La Casa Fantom (NOR), Lars and Bard, our friends from Norway, make a mix of grind, crust, metal, noise with a lot of punk attitude. The Ox Fanzine writes: “The two Norwegians are probably more punk than 99.78% of those who give the punk pope here.”
The music doesn't need a guitar because of the rather massively distorted bass, which would seem like a foreign body in the elaborate groovy melodies and would rob the band of its uniqueness.
While decades ago (sic!) NOMEANSNO pursued a similar approach but were more jazzy, LA CASA FANTOM remain punks in terms of music and content, perhaps not in the strict musical sense, but in their soul.

The third of the bunch, and at the last minute: Alta Rossa (FR) play dark sludge / post-metal with a good dose of blackened hardcore and are on tour with a new, as yet unreleased album (partly with Inter Arma). They will demand a lot from you with a crisp opening set and open the evening in style.
