Book- and zine-making workshop
Short url:
NOTE: It's a sunny day, so we will spend as much time as possible outside. Make sure to charge your laptop!
How to put together long zines and short books for print, using only open source tools. We will discuss differences between text-processing software (commonly used by writers) and applications that use the blank page as their starting point. The latter are referred to as desktop publishing software, and they are often quite daunting to those of us who are not professional designers.
The idea is to dive into the deep end of LibreOffice (a free alternative to MS Wrd, or whatever it's called these days) and look at its advanced capabilities. From there we swim towards the basics of Scribus, a free open source desktop-publishing application similar to Indsign.
Trashy frozen pizza will be available. Bring your own fancy vegetarian pizza if you prefer.
Doors open at 18:00, workshop starts at about 18:30.
