The Work that Reconnects was developed in the 1970s by eco-philosopher Joanna Macy as a way to engage with the despair and 'weltschmerz' felt by environmental activists. The Work that Reconnects is not therapy and there is no hierarchy. Rather, it is a way for activists to support each other through and beyond powerful emotions about impossible-seeming situations. In this workshop we will be doing a series of exercises in groups and pairs that allow us to honour our pain for the world, to see and act with a new, deeper perspective, and gain renewed energy, creativity and inspiration. We will reconnect with what we love about the world, rather than cutting ourselves off from it for fear of its loss.
