Let's think about what technological autonomy means in the present moment?
Technology is all around us and capitalism shapes our experience of if. It sometimes seems that there are no alternatives but technological autonomy is one alternative. This short talk will present three diverse examples to illustrate what in the speakers view show technological autonomous tendencies.
We will briefly discuss afrofuturism, detroit techno, and emancipatory sci-fi; community computer networks run on radio and light; and the low tech world of sailors and appropriate technology.
The aim of this talk is ultimately to have a nice conversation at LAG and provide some inspiration in a moment when it seems as though it is easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism and imperialism.
