THE EMPEROR'S NAKED ARMY   1987 (ゆきゆきて、神軍) Directed by Kazuo Hara 134 minutes In Japanese with English subtitles

One of the craziest, wildest documentaries out there, it is a favorite or Errol Morris and Werner Herzog. Naked Army centers on one person's driven determination to find the truth. A 62-year-old called Kenzo Okuzaki, had been a Japanese soldier during the Second World War, and he is heavily scarred by the experience. Forty years later he decides he can no longer live with his memories, and decides to go on a one-man crusade to find out who in the Japanese military was responsible for the deaths of his two best friends. Their deaths were never officially explained, and he is going to find out what happened.

This astounding documentary works on many levels... as drama, as a human portrait, as investigative journalism by the director, as a mystery. The story that unfolds is absolutely insane, but of course I won't go into it here - it's something that has to be experienced.

This will be a high-definition projection.
