The Black Cat double bill
Short url:
THE BLACK CAT 1934 Directed by Edgar G. Ulmer 65 minutes In English
This cult classic is based vaguely on the short story of the same name by Edgar Allen Poe and stars the two great actors of Hollywood horror cinema, Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff. Needless to say, both are at their very best in this wild movie.
The premise of the story? Two American honeymooners traveling through Hungary get involved in a road accident, and the bride has to be taken to the nearest residence for medical help. Once there, it becomes clear they are being held captive by a Satan-worshiping priest. This film has a wonderfully downright creepy atmosphere woven from themes of jealousy, lust, revenge, murder, sadism, necrophilia, pedophilia, and incest. You have to admit that's a hell of a lot for a 65 minute film! One of the best... I can barely wait to see it again myself.
This will be a high-definition screening.
