Rolf de Heer | 1993 | Australia/Italy | 114'

Bubby is 35, almost mute, and his only playmate is a cat. He’s never left the tiny apartment he lives in with his abusive mother, because she tells him the outside air is poisonous. However, after an unexpected visit from his estranged father, Bubby escapes and encounters society for the first time.

Bad Boy Bubby is both a black comedy and a serious drama, raising questions of innocence, morality and the cost of entry to society.

Rolf de Heer is one of Australia’s most acclaimed directors. Bad Boy Bubby (1993) was his fourth feature and won multiple festival awards.
