Kaan Müjdeci | 2014 | Turkey | 97' " English subs

Eleven-year-old Aslan lives in an archaic village in Turkey. He finds Sivas, an injured fighting dog, and nurses him. A friendship develops between Aslan and the dog, and with every fight that Sivas wins against other dogs the respect and reputation for them within the village increases. The film draws a rough image of the male world, in which no regard for feelings is taken and in which only the strongest survives – a hard world to grow up. Müjdeci might interpret the dog as a sign of power and strength, as a metaphor for the men's society. Sivas is not a fairytale child story, but an unsentimental film about the end of childhood.
